EpiMonitor is a combined solution that consists of the EmbracePlus wearable and the EpiMonitor smartphone app (compatible with iOS and Android) and requires both in order to work.
To get started, users only need to create an account online, install the EpiMonitor app on their phone and make sure they wear their EmbracePlus.
The smartphone and the EmbracePlus connect via Bluetooth®, and when a possible generalized tonic-clonic seizure is detected, EpiMonitor will automatically send an alert to up to 3 caregivers.
In addition to monitoring and alerting of seizures, the brand new EmbracePlus wearable also continuously monitors the sleep and activity of its user, providing comprehensive health tracking directly inside the EpiMonitor app.
How accurate is it?
EpiMonitor uses an advanced algorithm that detects patterns associated with generalised tonic-clonic seizures with a 98% accuracy and during rest a False Alarm Rate (FAR) per day of 0.05 for children and 0.02 for adults.

Automated Seizure Alerts
EpiMonitor is designed to detect unusual patterns that may indicate a generalised tonic-clonic seizure lasting more than 20 seconds.
When such patterns are identified, EpiMonitor automatically sends a call and SMS to your caregivers via the companion app on the paired smartphone.
To function effectively, the EmbracePlus wearable must be paired with a smartphone that has Bluetooth enabled and is connected to the internet (via WiFi or using mobile data) at all times.
Easily cancel false alerts
If an activity is mistakenly identified as a potential seizure, EpiMonitor allows you to quickly and easily cancel false alerts from either the app or the EmbracePlus wearable.
This helps to remove unnecessary worry and ensures that your caregivers and loved ones are only contacted when needed.

With EpiMonitor, there are multiple sensitivity modes to choose from including the ability to temporarily switch off seizure detection. Users can adjust how EpiMonitor detects seizures based on the activities they’re doing, to help reduce false alerts.

Suitable for times when you’re in a controlled environment and do not need seizure monitoring, such as spending time with caregivers. In this mode, seizure detection and alerts are disabled. Please ensure this option is only used in safe, supervised settings.

EDA sensor (Electrodermal activity)
The wrist-worn seizure monitor measures Electrodermal Activity (EDA), which means it detects changes in certain properties of the skin.
This includes sweat secretion, a common indicator of potential seizure activity.
Accelerometer
The EmbracePlus sensor includes an accelerometer to monitor repetitive movement patterns, all of which assist with detecting potential tonic-clonic seizures.
The wrist-worn device combines both EDA and motion to detect seizures, which is proven to be more accurate than movement alone.

What’s in the box?
Every package contains one EmbracePlus device and a USB Type A charger, plus instructions on how to get started.
What do I need for EpiMonitor to work?
The person using the EpiMonitor will need:
1) A compatible smartphone that supports Bluetooth 5.0, with an active and stable internet connection (via WiFi or mobile data). Please note, Bluetooth must remain switched on and connected at all times.
2) EpiMonitor app with an active subscription plan. Once we have delivered your order, you’ll need to register the device on the Empatica website using the instructions that come with it.
Note that when purchasing the EpiMonitor from Epilepsy Alarms UK, the first 12 months of your subscription is included in the price – meaning there is nothing additional to pay for the first year.
What do caregivers need for EpiMonitor to work?
All caregivers need is a working mobile phone number on which they can receive alert calls and SMS messages.

How is the EpiMonitor app subscription managed?
After receiving your EpiMonitor, you’ll activate a subscription during setup to access all features on the Standard plan.
Customers who purchase an EpiMonitor from Epilepsy Alarms UK will find that their purchase includes the first 12 month subscription to the Standard plan, bundled within the price.
After the first 12 months, your ongoing subscription can be managed within the app – directly with Empatica.
Can I buy the EpiMonitor for someone who lives outside of the UK?
In short, no.
If you purchase EpiMonitor from Epilepsy Alarms UK and take the device outside of the UK, you will void your warranty or any eligibility for a refund on your purchase.
I have an Embrace2, can I upgrade to the EpiMonitor?
Currently, Empatica — the manufacturer of the EpiMonitor and Embrace2 — offers upgrades from the Embrace2 to the EpiMonitor exclusively for customers in the United States.
As the UK distributor, Epilepsy Alarms is not authorised to facilitate upgrades for UK customers. For further assistance, please contact Empatica directly at https://support.empatica.com/hc/en-us.
How will this be shipped to me?
Your order will be dispatched to you via Special Delivery and a signature will be required. Royal Mail will email you with updates on your delivery, so you can track its whereabouts and when you should expect it to be delivered.
Be sure to provide us with a mobile number when you place your order to receive free SMS updates from Royal Mail.
