Choosing your Epi-Care Mobile handset

Choosing the right mobile handset for you can be a daunting task.  With so many variations and manufacturers flooding the market with competing handsets it can be difficult to find a phone that suits you and your requirements.

Today’s blog post seeks to add some clarity to an issue that can seem fraught with uncertainty.

Firstly, the phone you choose to work with your Epi-Care Mobile must run the Android Operating System. iPhones and Windows phones will not work with the Epi-Care mobile.

We highly recommend the phone is equipped with a Qualcomm Chipset.  A full list of phones currently available can be found here.

Phones released prior to 2013 that are not running the most recent versions of Android (4.1 or greater) may have trouble connecting with the Epi-Care.

At Epilepsy Alarms UK we highly recommend you purchase your mobile handset directly with your chosen network.  Many networks provide a 28 day ‘cooling off’ period, during which you can use the phone and ensure it works with the Epi-Care alarm, but most importantly, that you are comfortable using the mobile handset.

Choosing the right network for your area

When activated the Epi-Care mobile will send text messages and make telephone calls to your loved ones, alerting them of the seizure.  Because of this, it is imperative you choose the mobile phone network that, not only offers you a good deal but has strong network coverage in your area.  An interactive map detailing network coverage across the UK can be found here.

At the bottom of this article, you will find a list of Android mobile handsets currently blacklisted.  These mobile handsets do not work with the Epi-Care Mobile.

Update:

We have recently discovered that some Sony handsets deplete the battery of the Epi-Care much quicker than other phones and we are no advising against purchasing a handset from this manufacturer.

At present, our manufacturers recommend the Samsung Galaxy S4.
